Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR)
Commercial drivers are required to conduct pre- and post-trip inspections on any commercial motor vehicles they operate throughought the day. If they discover any defects during those inspections, they must document them on a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) and turn that DVIR into the carrier. Any defects that are likely to affect the safe operation of the vehicle must be repaired and certified before the vehicle can be operated again.

Annual Vehicle Inspection Report
The inspection must include, at a minimum, the parts and accessories identified in 49 C.F.R. Part 396 (Appendix G). Inspections must be performed by an individual meeting the qualification requirements in 49 C.F.R. 396.19 & .25 (as applicable). A copy of the inspection report should be kept on the vehicle at all times.
Driver Consent to Limited Clearinghouse Queries
Carriers that employ CDL drivers must run annual queries through their accounts with the FMCSA's Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse to determine whether any drug/alcohol violation information exists in the Clearinghouse on each driver. The regulations require that carriers obtain written consent from their drivers to run these queries. This document can be used for that purpose.
