Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR)
Commercial drivers are required to conduct pre- and post-trip inspections on any commercial motor vehicles they operate throughought the day. If they discover any defects during those inspections, they must document them on a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) and turn that DVIR into the carrier. Any defects that are likely to affect the safe operation of the vehicle must be repaired and certified before the vehicle can be operated again.

Monthly Timecard for Short-Haul Drivers
Drivers who qualify for the short-haul exemption in Part 395 of the federal motor carrier safety regulations are exempt from the records of duty status (a/k/a driver logging) and ELD requirements; however, they must still complete a daily timecard, which lists the times they started and ended their work day and the total number of hours worked. This document satisfies the timecard requirement for short-haul drivers, and allows for a month's worth of entries per driver.
