FMCSA Administrator to resign Jan. 26th
FMCSA Administrator Robin Hutcheson will be resigning from her post effective January 26, 2024. The reasons for her departure are not clear. Sue Lawless, FMCSA's recently appointed Chief Safety Officer and Assistant Administrator, is likely to serve as the agency's Acting Administrator.
In a statement, Hutcheson said, “It has been the most profound honor to serve in the Biden-Harris Administration, and I am grateful to President Biden for appointing me to these roles. I thank Secretary Buttigieg for his leadership and confidence and recognize the dedicated team of professionals at the Department of Transportation who work hand in hand with industry partners to serve the American people and keep our country moving forward.”
Hutcheson was confirmed as the FMCSA's Administrator by the U.S. Senate in September of 2022. She was the agency's seventh confirmed Administrator since its inception in 2000.
Most recently, Hutcheson spearheaded several FMCSA initiatives, including its Safety Fitness Determination rulemaking, an overhaul to its Safety Measurement System, and a potential speed limiter rule. Hutcheson drew heavy criticism in recent Congressional meetings concerning the latter rulemaking.
Prior to joining FMCSA, Hutcheson served as the deputy assistant secretary for safety policy at the USDOT.
